Mobility of African Scholars for Transformative Engineering Training


Before Applying for MASTET

Applicants are advised to carefully research and select the host institution and study programme of choice, prior to submitting the application. The project particularly invites applications from female candidates and disadvantaged groups.

MASTET scholarships will be awarded to beneficiaries from two Target Groups:

Target Group 1 (TG1)

African nationals/residents whom are registered, admitted or obtained a degree from one of the Higher Education Institutions involved in MASTET project.

Target Group 2 (TG2)

African nationals registered, admitted or obtained a degree from an Higher Education Institution (HEI) not involved in the MASTET project.

Each student category has its own eligibility criteria. Please check the eligibility criteria of your particular student category carefully.

Full degree scholarships for Masters and Doctoral students

    In order to be eligible for this scholarship applicants must:
  • Be a national and resident in any of the eligible countries covered by the relevant lot; (Students cannot apply to study in any institution within their home country
  • Be registered/admitted at one of the HEIs within the Partnership at the time of the application for a scholarship (Target Group I) or be registered/admitted in a HEI (not included in the partnership) of a country of the lot or having obtained a HEI degree (or equivalent) by an institution of a country concerned by the lot (Target Group 2)
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses in the host countries

Exchange opportunities (Masters and PhD)

Students registered as full-degree students at one of the partner universities comprising the consortium, spend a short period (11 months minimum) at one of the other institutions in the consortium and return to their home institution after the exchange period to complete their degree at the home institution. Exchange students will spend their period at the host university as researchers mainly, being engaged in literature reviews, specialised theoretical or methodological training, or field studies and they will closely co-operate with their host and home university supervisors.

In addition to the above criteria there may be others defined internally by the partner institution to which you are applying. It is strongly recommended that applicants liaise with the relevant contact persons at the host institution and carefully read the “Guidelines for Applicants” and institutional and study programme information prior to submitting their application

Consortium

Select at least one host institution among the set of institutions of the consortium:

Candidates are seleced through a three-step process:

  • On-line application
    The on-line application platform is accessible from the “Apply Now” option of the main menu of the MASTET website
  • Admissions Board
    The Board consists of members of the MASTET Steering Committee and one representative of each of the Vice-Chancellors or Rectors of the partner universities
  • Publication of results
    This will be done through several media.

In addition to these academic criteria, the following administrative criteria will be taken into account:

  • Due Consideration will be given to the admission of physically challenged and other disadvantaged candidates
  • Equal geographic representation of the partner universities in the mobility scheme
  • Equity considerations for designated groups

If you have given incorrect or misguiding information in your application, this will be a reason to withdraw your grant.

Appeal Procedure for Credit-seeking Mobility:

  • The Applicant sends a query to the Coordinator of the MASTET Project within two weeks of publication of the results in the website using the Email Address: emmantanyi@gmail.com
  • The Coordinator notifies all members of the Admissions Board of the appeal and copies the applicant. In the same notification, the Coordinator schedules a meeting of the Admissions Board to deliberate on the appeal. The deliberation must be within 28 days of the publication of results
  • The results of the appeal are communicated to the candidate on the same day as the meeting of the Admissions Board for processing of the appeals

Notifications of application outcome to students are done as follows:

  • All applicants will be notified via e-mail
  • All applicants not selected for the programme are notified immediately after the selection decision has been made. Notification will include:
    • The results of the selection
    • The procedure to follow for an appeal to the selection decision

For the selected candidates the notification will include:

  • Instructions for further steps (visa guidelines, etc.)
  • A model of the Student Agreement
  • As well as any other relevant information
