Institutional Services
MASTET mobilities are implemented in five partner universities: University of Buea, Stellenbosch University, Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), Makerere University, and University of Abomey Calavi. All of these universities offer a range of institutional services to scholars.
University of Buea
The University of Buea offered seven (7) services to students. These included:
- Accommodation
Students are required to sign annual contracts for accommodation. These contracts were renewed for PhD and cohort-two students who are continuing their mobilities and terminated for cohort-one Masters Students who had completed their mobility. - Membership of Student Associations
All of the students continuing their mobility renewed their membership of associations. - Access to a Multi-media Computer Laboratory with Internet connection
- Access to a Research Laboratory
- Staff Mentorship of Students (One mentor per student)
The staff-student mentorship scheme has continued with the students still in mobility. - Access to an International Students’ Liaison Officer
- Access to Project Assistants
Access to project assistants is a permanent mobility requirement in Buea.
University of Stellenbosch
In Stellenbosch, students are offered services in three main offices:
- International Office
The International Office is the hub of student services. The services offered range from logistical to academic and social integration. It also offers other services which include pre-departure advice and support, immigration support, travel logistical support, airport shuttling, advice or search for accommodation, welcome and induction programme, cultural integration, excursions and academic administrative support. - Language Centre
The Language Centre offers language assistance through training and other support to students. Some of the services include Academic English writing courses, translation, editing, and interpreting. This is very useful for students whose first language is not English. - Postgraduate Office (PGO)
The Postgraduate Office is a central support office for postgraduate students, working towards streamlining and enhancing the postgraduate experience for both supervisors and students. The main aspects of postgraduate support in this instance are postgraduate enrolment support and skills development support.
Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN)
The services offered by BUAN include:
- Graduate student offices
- Single graduate hostel accommodation
- Departmental orientation to meet staff
- Study permit facilitation by the academic office
- Academic mentorship
- Access to International Students’ Liaison Officer
- Access to MASTET project assistant
Makerere University
Before their arrival in Uganda, the MASTET students receive support with information related to visa requirements and acquisition of student passes. Their accommodation is booked and assistance is provided to enable them open Bank accounts. An orientation session is organised for the students, during which they are shown around the university and college to help them quickly adapt to their new environment. The students are also introduced to key offices of the university and the college.
University of Abomey Calavi
The University of Abomey Calavi offers seven (7) services:
- Application for residence permits
- Accommodation
- Coaching of students by the Focal Point
- Language courses
- Regular payment of the scholarship by the Accounting Service
- Purchase of equipment for the student by the Procurement Service
- Insurance contract for the students
